HERSEY
MOUNTAIN HISTORY PROJECT – HELP
REQUESTED
The 3,100 acre Hersey
Mountain Forest
in northern Sanbornton and southern New Hampton is a conservation property
owned by the New England Forestry Foundation and open to the public. Parts of this property were once farms,
fields and pastures, and have been used more recently
for forest products. Dan Heyduk, a
steward for the Hersey Forest,
is compiling a history of the property.
He is interested in hearing from anyone who has, or knows of, any
records for the land north of Knox Mountain Road,
Brook Road and Hale
Road in Sanbornton. In New Hampton, he would like to hear from
anyone who knows about, or has records of, the history of the land south of Gordon
Hill Road and Old Bristol
Road and east of Blake
Hill Road.
Dan has covered the published history of the area, and now needs to fill
in many missing pieces. Information he
is seeking includes:
Records, pictures or stories of families
which settled in that area:
Dan is also interested in records, pictures or stories of
schools, mills, businesses and roads in that area.
Dan lives in Meredith and can be contacted at: hersey@lanetavern.org, 279-1206
